Norfolk Rhapsody No.1, Vaughan Williams Ralph

Vaughan Williams composed three 'Norfolk Rhapsodies' in 1906. Nos. 2 and 3 - now sadly lost - were actually performed at a concert in London's Queen's Hall on 17 April 1912 under Balfour Gardiner just days after the "Titanic" disaster. The First Rhapsody was given its premiere on 23 August 1906 at the same locale under Henry Wood's baton. The composer made a number of revisions to the work before a second performance took place (21 May 1914) in Bournemouth. This newly engraved edition by Richard W. Sargeant, Jr. is based upon the revised 1914 score. ... więcej

Shepherd's Hey, BFMS 16, Grainger Percy Aldridge

Percy Grainger, much like his contemporary Bela Bartok, was intensely interested in folk music and became a member of the English Folk-Song Society soon after his arrival in London in the first decade of the 20th century. He produced numerous works based upon folk music from the British isles, with more than 45 items in his "British Folk-Music Settings" alone. As with many titles in the series, Shepherd's Hey exists in multiple arrangements - "dished-up" by the composer himself. The first version (BFMS 3), composed between 1908-11, was for an ensemble ... więcej

Romeo and Juliet (1880 version), TH 42, Tchaikovsky Peter Ilyich

First composed in 1869, Tchaikovsky's popular overture-fantasia was premiered in Moscow on March 16, 1870 with the Russian Musical Society under the baton of Nikolay Rubinstein. The composer expanded the work later that year, which was the first version published (1871, Berlin) and this second version was given in St. Petersburg at that city's branch of the RMS under Eduard Napravnik. Still not quite satisfied, Tchaikovsky revised the work again in 1880, the German publisher issuing the final version the following year. This is the standard version known ... więcej

National Emblem, Bagley Edwin E.

Edwin Eugene Bagley (1857-1922) was born in Craftsbury, Vermont and started his music career at the age of nine as a vocalist and bellringer. In spite of never having had formal music lessons he became a successful cornet player, trombonist and composer. He moved to Boston in 1880, became solo cornet player in the Boston Theater, traveled with the Bostonians opera company for nine years and later played with the Germania Band. He eventually settled in New Hampshire, where he directed several city bands. It is believed Bagley started composing the National ... więcej

Brooke's Triumphal March, Seitz Roland F.

The American bandmaster, composer and publisher Roland Forrest Seitz was born in Shrewsbury township, Pennsylvania. One of eight children, his father died while Roland was still a boy so he went to work as a printer's apprentice at a young age. Passionate about music, he studied on his own, learning the flute, then euphonium and cornet, and performed in his family band as well as in the Glen Rock Band. He was only able to start formal music training at age 27 when he enrolled at the Dana's Musical Institute in Warren, Ohio, graduating from there in 1898. ... więcej

Sleeping Beauty, Op.66, Tchaikovsky Peter Ilyich

Newly edited and engraved study score for Tchaikovsky's second ballet masterpiece. Includes Preface, Synopsis, and Cast of Characters. This score includes variants not present in the Soviet score. Sleeping Beauty was propelled into the permanent ballet repertoire immediately after the brilliant 1889 premiere by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov in St. Petersburg's ... więcej

Rolling Thunder, Fillmore Henry

Rolling Thunder is the classic example of a "screamer" - an upbeat circus march intended to excite the audience during the show. Editor Richard Sargeant has produced this newly engraved score using the original parts issued by the composer's publishing concern Fillmore Brothers in 1916. The new Serenissima Band Classics series is designed to offer band directors and others interested in this genre newly engraved authoritative editions which are prepared from the primary sources using the composer's original instrumentation, which is sometimes markedly ... więcej

Slavonic Rhapsody in A-flat major, B.86.3, Dvorak Antonin

Dvorak's final Slovanské rapsodie was composed from around September 20 to December 3 of 1878 and was not completed by the premiere of its two companions at the November 17 Prague concert where Dvorak introduced himself as both a composer and a conductor. It was instead first performed in Berlin on September 24, 1879 conducted by William Taubert. Like its counterparts, traditional forms and programmatic associations are avoided and the music is meant to be enjoyed on its own terms. This new study score is a digitally enhanced reissue of the full ... więcej
