Chesterton [czest?rt?n] G.K., właśc. Gilbert Keith Chesterton, ur. 29 V 1874, Londyn, zm. 14 VI 1936, Beaconsfield (hrab. Buckinghamshire), angielski powieściopisarz, nowelista, eseista, poeta, krytyk literacki, publicysta i działacz społeczny.
W twórczości głosił potrzebę optymizmu moralnego i afirmacji życia. Pisał liryki, powieści metaforyczne (Napoleon z Notting Hill 1904, wydanie polskie 1925; Człowiek, który był Czwartkiem 1908, wydanie polskie 1958, wydanie 1914 pt. Delegat anarchistów), opowiadania detektywistyczne (cykl Przygody księdza Browna, t. 1–5 1911–35, wydanie polskie w seriach 1927–28, w wyborze 1958), eseje literackie, społeczne, religijno-filozoficzne (Heretics 1905, Orthodoxy 1909, The Everlasting Man 1925), monografie, m.in. o Ch. Dickensie i św. Franciszku z Asyżu. Przeciwnik kapitalizmu i imperializmu brytyjskiego, tworzył utopijne teorie społeczne oparte na zasadach indywidualistycznie pojętej wolności; oddziaływał polemicznym temperamentem, błyskotliwym dowcipem, paradoksem; chętnie posługiwał się formami groteskowo-fantastycznymi, ironią i satyrą; Pisma wybrane (1974), polski przekład wierszy w antologii Poeci języka angielskiego (t. 3 1974).
