Ruskin [raskin] John, ur. 8 II 1819, Londyn, zm. 20 I 1900, Brantwood (hrab. Lancashire), angielski teoretyk i krytyk sztuki, grafik, malarz, pisarz i kolekcjoner;

pierwszy profesor historii sztuki uniwersytetu w Oksfordzie (1870–78 i 1883–84); wielbiciel gotyku, wyznawca irracjonalistycznego estetyzmu, głosił utopijne projekty reformy stosunków społecznych przez wychowanie w kulcie piękna; krytykował poglądy J.S. Milla i gospodarkę wolnorynkową; podkreślał związek rzemiosła ze sztuką. Bronił teorii i twórczości prerafaelitów, a także W. Turnera. Pisał poezje, fantastyczne utwory literackie (Król Złotej Rzeki... 1851, wydanie polskie 1909), rozprawy o sztuce (Modern Painters, t. 1–5 1843–60, The Seven Lamps of Architecture 1849, The Stones of Venice, t. 1–3 1851–53), reformatorskie rozprawy ekonomiczne i społeczne (Unto this Last 1862, Gałązka dzikiej oliwy 1866, wydanie polskie 1900); Wybór pism (t. 1–2 1900), Sztuka — społeczeństwo — wychowanie (1977 wybór pism).
