Twins are two or more offspring born as a result of one pregnancy within a short time of each other. They can be one- (monozygotic), two- (dizygotic) or multi- (polyzygotic). According to statistics, on average, twins make up about 2% of all newborns, and triplets make up only 2% of all twins. The probability of having identical twins is not associated with hereditary and external factors and averages 3 per 1000 pregnancies, that is, 0.3%. According to the CDC, "For every 1,000 births, there are 32.1 twins. Among the general population in the 21st century, the probability of having twins is approximately 3 in 100 (about 3%)." For this reason, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of twins with diseases of the ENT organs remain relevant.
