We behold heroes, gods, and goddesses, but we look in vain for the child. We realise what Mr. Ruskin calls the singular defect in Greek art,'1 namely, the absence of child hood. This defect' is common, not only to Greek art, but to all the early art of the Eastern world.<br><br>Such is the fact.
