I am indebted for valuable help in the revision of the proofs to Mr. Alexander Paul, whose books on The History of Reform and Short Parliaments are models of exact information on the topics on which they treat. I have not cumbered the pages with references to the records and reports with which I have dealt, but I have kept them, and think that I shall be able to give full and quick verification for any statement that may be challenged.
