Le bey n'habile plus que sa belle villa de la Marsa, où il fait plus frais qu'au Bardo. On lui a réservé, au Bardo, les deux salles de réception - où, trois ou quatre fois par an, il vient donner audience et prononcer sur le sort des condamnés à la peine capitale. Des autres bâtiments qui composaient ce groupe de palais, les uns, qui tombaient en ruines, ont été démolis; les autres, consolidés et réparés, ont été livrés au Musée qui, longtemps encore, y trouvera la place nécessaire pour s'agrandir.
