Names have been put forward not from any special historical interest but as types or instances bearing on the discussion of different qualities, inherent or otherwise, and for the purpose of indi cating woman's place in the scheme of evolution. This point of view should be borne in mind when names sufficiently notable in history for mention appear to have been overlooked, or when instances are given of persons and incidents so familiar as to be almost threadbare.
