Excerpt from Report of the Quartermaster-General of the State of New Jersey: For the Year 1884<br><br>The employes at the State Arsenal, after several years' service, have attained to great skill and proficiency in the manufacture of cartridges. They are hand-made, and believed to be equal, if not superior, to those made by machinery. The facilities are such, that with the skill of the present force of experienced men, there can be turned out six thousand rounds of ammunition daily. Only a limited num ber of cartridges are kept on hand, as they are found to deteriorate by age, and the best results are obtained from freshly-made ammunition.
