Excerpt from A Study of Certain Figures in a Maya Codex<br><br>Objects ornamented with symbolic figures of supernatural beings are from time to time being dug up in the ruins of Yucatan, and the monuments themselves are covered with bas reliefs and other representations of supernatural beings. Evi~ dently'it is profitable or even necessary to have clearly in mind what personage is intended to be designated by certain symbolic marks as an introduction to this study. The present article is, therefore, simply an effort to describe the modification in symbolism of one deity as expressed in a single codex.
