Originally published in 1917, Southern Life in Southern Literature is a collection of literary works from some of the most important southern writers. Each author has a short biography, along with samples of their work. The types of work include essays, short stories, selections from longer works, and poetry. It includes numerous writers, such as Edgar Allen, Poe, John Pendleton Kennedy, Francis Scott Key, and Paul Hamilton Hayne, to name just a few.
