<P><I>Ecological Film Theory and Psychoanalysis</I> argues that these films exploit cinema's inherent Cartesian grammar to construct texts in which not only small groups of protagonist survivors, but also vicarious spectators, pleasurably transcend the fictionalised destruction. </P>
