Excerpt from Coal-Tar Dyes: For Which Import Licenses Were Granted During the Fiscal Year 1920<br><br>It is obvious that most of the dyes in the following tables were either unobtainable from United States sources or if produced were not satisfactory for the use intended by the applicants for one or more of the reasons mentioned above.<br><br>Special attention is called to the fact that approximately pounds of German dyes were bought and fully paid for prior to April 6, 1917, when this country entered the war, and were licensed for importation even though our records showed that the same colors were being produced in the United States.<br><br>The entries for names of colors Show how applications were actually filed. For instance, some licenses were granted for powder and some for paste.' In many applications neither-powder nor paste was mentioned, although the dyes asked for were produced in both concentrations.
