A snapshot of current contemporary art practice, 35 artworks from 25 photographic and digital artists in this anthology of new and emerging artists.
This is the fifth book in The State of Art, art book series and explores Photography and Digital manipulation as an artistic medium and how current artists are embracing new technology and redefining photographic art.
Photography has been used creatively since its inception the mid 19th Century, many at the time falsely believing it struck a Death knell for Painting. New technologies and digital manipulation techniques have led to a number of artists utilizing the computer to create near perfect photographic works, while others chose to create works which have no foothold in reality. Others combine these two approaches to create complex imagery that equally manipulates our perception. Fine Art photography can be distinguished from other branches of the medium in the sense that the work is created with the singular vision of the artist as its impetus; creating works which are far from mere academic renderings of objects or scenes for advertising and Journalism.
Computer generated imagery has become more prevalent within artistic practice in recent years, a natural progression, as the digital realm opens up a whole new arena for the creation and dissemination of artistic and creative practices. The Internet, 3D graphics and Animation, Social Networking, and video sharing services like YouTube® have led to an explosion of digital creativity which often bypasses the usual routes through which art gains validation.
