Excerpt from Canadian Life and Resources, Vol. 6: November, 1908<br><br>HE first rural mail delivery in the Dominion of Canada was begun on October Ioth by Mr. George Ross, Dominion Superintendent of the Postal Department. The first route is along the Ancaster road, between Hamilton and Ancaster Village, Ont., a distance of seven miles, and is started with thirty-seven subscribers. Each sub scriber is furnished with a locked mail box, which is installed on a post from which a bar is operated on a swivel. The courier does not have to leave his waggon to open the box.
