Excerpt from The Works of John Home, Esq., Vol. 3 of 3: Now First Collected; To Which Is Prefixed an Account of His Life and Writings<br><br>The old Pretender wrote to Lochiel more than once with his own hand. The first letter (dated in the year 1727) was written to Lochiel, before he left Paris to go to the Highlands. In this letter James praises his zeal and loyalty, and assures him of his particular regard. The second letter, in which he gives him powers to treat with his friends in Scotland, is dated Al bano, October 3, 1729. The former of these letters has been preserved, but the orignal of the second letter is lost an ex tract or copy of it remains. Nos.
