<p>On an early spring day, at the highway entrance to Greer, AZ, a hulking, rough-hewn cross is erected and on it is a nude girl with twisted red hair. The girl is crucified on the cross. Who is she and who committed such a shocking and heinous act?</p><p>In the barren fields of the White Mountains, people come to see a woman speak of God, men, women, and God&rsquo;s daughter. The woman speaking is powerful and convincing. Is she connected to the crime?</p><p>Petra Blue, newly married to the recently appointed Sheriff, sees the girl as she is arriving back from her honeymoon. The sight is jarring. Petra is already unraveling when she lays eyes on the crucifix. As she attempts to investigate the crime, she dissolves into addiction, troubles with her new husband, and doubts about herself and her destiny. Petra must also deal with questions of desire, love, and vulnerability. She also revisits her past and must confront, again, her abuser and the absence of her parents.
