Gramat Volapüka, De Jong Arie

Volapük is a constructed language, devised in 1879 by Johann Martin Schleyer, a Roman Catholic priest who was inspired in a dream to create an international language. Schleyer adapted the vocabulary of Volapük mostly from English, supplemented by German, French. and Latin. The grammar of Volapük is regular and relatively simple-surprisingly easier, in fact, than it looks at first. Volapük was the first proposed International Auxiliary Language to enjoy widespread popularity: it is estimated that in 1889, there were some 283 clubs, 25 ... więcej

Breton Grammar, Hemon Roparz

This book is for the most part a straightforward translation of the ninth edition of Roparz Hemon's Grammaire bretonne. In preparing this edition, a number of sections in the grammar had to be changed for the benefit of the English-speaking reader. Many, but not all, of these additions may be found in the notes to the various sections.

The Mighty Woman's Adventures Abroad, de Creag Art

Art de Creag is a Belfast native who has written a great deal of prose and poetry in both Irish and English for many years.  His work has been published in nearly every Irish language magazine and journal and for more than a decade, he wrote articles regularly for the Irish-language newspaper Lá and prior to that for Preas an Phobail .  The Mighty Woman's Adventures Abroad is Mícheál Ó hAodha's English translation of Eachtra na Mná Móire thar Lear , Art's first novel in Irish, a hilariously sardonic ... więcej

Behind the Looking-Glass, Ackerman Sherry L.

"Behind the Looking-Glass" offers a fresh perspective in the ongoing, contemporary deconstruction of the Carroll Myth. Through rigorous examination of numerous myths that have been hitherto unquestioned, Ackerman skilfully positions Lewis Carroll in the theological and philosophical contexts of his time. She uncovers a Carroll whose radical religio-philosophical counter-response to patriarchal materialism moved his intellectual journey, intentionally or otherwise, deep into the waters of mysticism. The image of Carroll as a dreary Victorian conservative gives ... więcej

Alice's Adventchers in Wunderland, Carroll Lewis

'Scouse' is the name of the unique dialect of English spoken in Liverpool. It is a relatively new dialect, dating to the 19th century, showing some influence of speakers from England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. The Beatles are perhaps the most famous speakers of Scouse, or at least the first speakers who came to public prominence outside the Liverpool region. This book contains a brief sketch of the orthographic principles used in presenting the Liverpudlian dialect in this edition. The Scouse translation was first prepared by Marvin R. Sumner in ... więcej

Treasure Island, Stevenson Robert Louis

It was in 1880 and 1881 that Robert Louis Stevenson wrote "Treasure Island", which was begun at Braemar, Scotland, where his father aided him with suggestions from his own seafaring experiences. It was finished in the course of his second visit to Davos in the winter of 1881-1882. "Treasure Island", which appeared when the author was thirty-one, was his first long romance, and it brought to him his first taste of popular success, when the story was published in book form. It was in October 1881, that this story began to appear as a serial in an English magazine ... więcej
