Asymptotic Efficiency of Nonparametric Tests, Nikitin Yakov
CONTINUITY IN TOPOLOGICAL SPACES, Chetia Biman Chandra

A topological space can be thought of as a set form which has been swept away all structure irrelevant to the continuity. So, concepts of semi-continuity, weaker-continuity and pre-continuity are widely acceptable in topological domain. This book imparts latest developments in various forms of continuity in a topological space and their classifications, decomposition and successful applications. The book is aimed at providing conceptual skill in various forms of continuity in topological space, which is very needful for researcher of spatial and ... więcej

Evaluation of Air Pollutants Using Bootstrapping Extremes Models, Barakat Haroon

The main aim of this work is to apply Generalized Extreme Value distribution under Linear normalization (GEVL) and Generalized Pareto Distribution under Linear normalization (GPDL) to modeling air pollutant in El Sharkia governorate in Egypt. Also, to solve the problem of the choice peak over threshold in the case of GPDL and the validity of bootstrap method in the case of GEVL modeling. We suggest the sub-sample bootstrap method to convert any data to block data to use it for GEVL modeling. Moreover, we introduced the Generalized Pareto Distribution under ... więcej

A Lattice Attack on the McEliece Public Key Cryptosystem, Velikova Zaharina

The McEliece cryptosystem was proposed by R.McEliece in 1978. In its original version it is based on Goppa codes. Given a public key matrix G and a codeword c=mG+e, we reduce the problem of recovering the error vector e to the shortest lattice vector problem. Using Conway and Sloane's "Construction A", we construct a basis of a lattice, in which the norm of the shortest vector w.r.t. lp norm is equal to the lp norm of the error vector e for p>log(t), where t is the weight of the error vector e. To find such shortest vector in our lattice we use the LLL and ... więcej

Stochastic representation and analysis of rough surface topography, Ahmad Ola

Surface topography is, generally, composed of many length scales starting from its physical geometry, to its microscopic or atomic scales known by roughness. The spatial and geometrical evolution of the roughness topography of engineered surfaces avail comprehensive understanding, and interpretation of many physical and engineering problems such as friction, and wear mechanisms during the mechanical contact between adjoined surfaces. Obviously, the topography of rough surfaces is of random nature. It is composed of irregular hills/valleys being spatially ... więcej

Loving Math, Forsheit Lewis

This book includes problems and projects (either in whole or in part) that my students worked on in my regular math classes, in my advanced math elective, or outside of school with my mentoring. The problems and projects include some that can be found in literature, some that I made up myself, and some (no doubt) that are both because what I made-up may have been made-up previously. I decided to compile some of the topics that my best students worked on and publish them for the benefit of other teachers, who could share them with their gifted students.

Applications of Microscopic Modelling in Finance, Wei Alexander

For the financial industry, it is of paramount importance to understand the statistical features of price processes. While statistical models can reproduce empirical findings, they cannot give insight into the causal relationships and the market's response to a changing environment. Microscopic models of financial markets are an approach to understand the underlying mechanisms determining the market behaviour. In this book, we give an introduction to the basic idea of microscopic modelling with a particular focus on the "Opinion Game", a microscopic market ... więcej

Modelling of the Nairobi Stock Data using ARCH and Bilinear Models, Wagala Adolphus

The purpose of this study was to determine the most efficient model between the two models namely, ARCH and bilinear models when applied to stock market data. The data was obtained from the Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE) for the period between 3 rd June 1996 to 31 st December 2007 for the company share prices while for the NSE 20-share index data was for period between 2 nd March 1998 to 31 st December 2007.The share prices for three companies; Bamburi Cement, National Bank of Kenya and Kenya Airways which were selected at random from each of the three main ... więcej

Multi-Fractal Stochastic Modeling of the Auroral Electrojet Index, Sund Martin

In this thesis we have analyzed the Auroral Electrojet (AE) Index over the years 2000 to 2005, a time series consisting of over 3 000 000 data points. This data is described as a multi- fractal stochastic process. We first introduce a class of random multiplicative measures, which provide the multi-fractality in the stochastic processes. We also review the theory of fractal dimensions and scaling functions, before introducing the Multifractal Model of Asset Returns (MMAR), [15]. The scaling properties of various versions of the MMAR model are compared ... więcej

The Prime Vibration, Smith Michael

What is the true nature of reality? How does consciousness fit in? Why is love the most powerful force we feel? In this paradigm shifting book you will discover a remarkably simple and profound answer to all these questions and more: everything is consciousness emerging from love. By imagining the simplest conceptual way of creating "something" from "nothing," as cycles of prime numbers in base-12, Michael Smith reveals the elegant vibrational pattern which emerges. Taking the shape of a double-helix probability waveform which manifests as a torus in ... więcej

Differential Forms, Victor Guillemin

There already exist a number of excellent graduate textbooks on the theory of differential forms as well as a handful of very good undergraduate textbooks on multivariable calculus in which this subject is briefly touched upon but not elaborated on enough. The goal of this textbook is to be readable and usable for undergraduates. It is entirely devoted to the subject of differential forms and explores a lot of its important ramifications. In particular, our book provides a detailed and lucid account of a fundamental result in the theory of differential ... więcej

Game Theory, Cummings John

GAME THEORY Although game theory as a salient concept is relatively young, the principles behind game theory have for millennia allowed humans to anticipate the behavior of their fellows and work out compelling exchanges that suit everyone's self-interest, allowing people to benefit both individually and collectively. This book serves as a complete guide to game theory, and will explain the principles of game theory, while also providing practical examples such as the Prisoner's Dilemma, and the role that game theory played during the Cold War. ... więcej

Epidemic Models,
Quantum Physics Made Easy, Grey Donald B.

What is the Schrödinger's Cat?   Let's face the fact here, you are NOT A SCIENTIST nor a physician, and yet you are curious about those questions that you have been pondering about. It's time for you to rediscover science?   One of the most compelling draws of the sciences for many people is the potential of discovering something that was not known before. Whether someone's doing it for fame, for ... więcej

Optimum Failure Truncated Testing Strategies, Kostandyan Erik

Testing mechanical components for their intended purpose under predetermined working conditions is a common practice used by industries to prevent failures. Fatigue tests are categorized as Time Truncated or Failure Truncated, known in the literature as Type I and Type II tests, respectively. The parameters of a typical failure truncated test include the capacity of the test facility, the actual number of components placed on the test, the termination of the test once a predetermined number of test results has been collected and the duration of the test. ... więcej
