Now let it be known that Jack Sinclair was entirely reckless, be this to his credit or no, and believed greatly in the throw of a dice, on his luck at cards, or on the merits of a horse. Knowing this, it is not surprising that he was foolish enough to risk all his assets on the ponies at the Epsom Derby. It was to be his first lesson on youthful folly, and probably it was as well he lost everything.
